CHICAGO — With an emphatic rejection into the seats of the UIC Pavilion, Valparaiso center Vashil Fernandez set a new program record for career blocks.
The fifth-year senior dominated UIC in the paint Saturday for six blocks and now has 233 for his career, surpassing former center Raitis Grafs’ record that stood since 2003.
“I came here to get a win. My hard work has paid off, ” Fernandez said. “This is a great honor to me.”
Fernandez also had eight points and nine rebounds as Valparaiso eased to a 73-55 victory.
