UIC (2-5) rough start to the 2014-15 season continued Saturday with a 75-41 loss at Dayton (4-1). The Flames stuck within single digits of the Flyers for most of the first half but trailed 27-16 at the break. Dayton dominated the second half, nearly doubling UIC’s score, 48-25.
With this loss, the Flames are now 0-5 in games played away from UIC Pavilion and are 1-5 overall against Division I teams. The only D-I win came against Western Illinois, which is currently 1-3.
There were few bright spots in Saturday’s loss. Junior forward Jake Wiegand posted 11 points and has now scored in double figures five times this season. Wiegand is typically an efficient scorer, but he shot just 4-for-12 from the field at Dayton.
No other UIC player scored in double figures Saturday. Senior guard Jay Harris recorded eight points and junior guard Gabe Snider made a pair of 3-pointers off the bench. Snider has drilled five triples in the last two games.
Dayton guard Jordan Sibert had no trouble scoring against the Flames with 22 points on 7-for-11 shooting. He also shot 4-for-6 from 3-point range. Center Devon Scott had a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds.
UIC begins a four-game home stand Tuesday against Grand Canyon.
