UIC guard Jay Harris surpasses 1,000 career points with 27-point performance

CHICAGO — UIC senior guard Jay Harris reached a major milestone in his career Thursday, surpassing 1,000 points for his career.

Harris scored 27 points on 9-of-21 shooting, although the Flames lost 71-60 to the Milwaukee Panthers. His 1,000th point came on a jumper from the top of the key with 6:26 to play in the first half.

Despite the achievement, Harris was dejected after the loss.

“It would mean a lot more if we won,” Harris said. “If we won, then I’d be happy.”

UIC returns to action Sunday at Oakland.
