Top 25 Rankings for the Week of Jan. 27

1. Arizona (20-0, 7-0 Pac-12). Last week: 1

Arizona held on to its spot as No. 1 in the nation with wins against Colorado and Utah last week. The Wildcats will be tested on the road this week, against Stanford and California.

 

2. Syracuse (19-0, 6-0 ACC). Last week: 2

Syracuse survived another close game against Miami (FL) in its only game last week. The Orange will try for 20-0 Wednesday at Wake Forest.

3. Kansas (15-4, 6-0 Big 12). Last week: 6

Kansas won four straight games against nationally ranked opponents and then did not suffer a letdown at TCU. The Jayhawks crushed the Horned Frogs, 91-69, on Saturday.

 

4. Wichita State (21-0, 8-0 MVC). Last week: 5

Wichita State survived another road trip in the Missouri Valley, which is never easy. The Shockers won at Illinois State and Drake, and they return home this week for Loyola (Chicago) and Evansville.

 

5. Florida (17-2, 6-0 SEC). Last week: 7

Florida has won 11 straight games after defeating Tennessee on Saturday. The Gators’ next game is Thursday at Mississippi State.

 

6. Michigan State (18-2, 7-1 Big Ten). Last week: 3

Michigan State’s perfect Big Ten record was snapped Saturday by Michigan. The Spartans now sit in second place in the conference entering a tough game at Iowa on Tuesday.

 

7. San Diego State (18-1, 7-0 MWC). Last week: 9

San Diego State survived a very tough road game at Utah State on Saturday, 74-69 in overtime. The Aztecs return home this week to face Colorado State.

 

8. Iowa (16-4, 5-2 Big Ten). Last week: 8

Iowa’s winning streak was snapped by Michigan, but the Hawkeyes rebounded with a 26-point win at Northwestern. They return home Tuesday to host Michigan State.

 

9. Villanova (17-2, 6-1 Big East). Last week: 4

Villanova overcame a blown block/charge call at the end of regulation to defeat Marquette in overtime Saturday. The Wildcats continue their road trip this week at Georgetown and Temple.

 

10. Oklahoma State (16-3, 4-2 Big 12). Last week: 12

West Virginia gave Oklahoma State another tough test, but once again the Cowboys overcame the Mountaineers. The Cowboys will play at Oklahoma on Monday in a rivalry matchup.

 

11. Kentucky (15-4, 5-1 SEC). Last week: 13

Kentucky defeated Georgia on Saturday for its third straight win and seventh victory in its last eight games. The Wildcats are on the road this week against LSU and Missouri.

 

12. Michigan (15-4, 7-0 Big Ten). Last week: 17

Michigan has continued its stellar play in the Big Ten. The Wolverines won at Michigan State on Saturday to take complete control of first place in the Big Ten.

 

13. Wisconsin (17-3, 4-3 Big Ten). Last week: 10

Wisconsin ended a three-game slide with a 72-58 win against Purdue on Saturday. The Badgers host Northwestern and Ohio State this week.

 

14. Louisville (17-3, 6-1 AAC). Last week: 14

Louisville won road games at Connecticut and South Florida last week. The Cardinals host Cincinnati on Thursday with a chance to close the gap between first and second place.

 

15. Cincinnati (19-2, 8-0 AAC). Last week: 16

Cincinnati defeated UCF and Temple last week to remain unbeaten in AAC play. The Bearcats can gain some separation in the conference standings with a win at Louisville on Thursday.

 

16. Iowa State (15-3, 3-3 Big 12). Last week: 18

Iowa State pulled back to .500 in the Big 12 with a win against Kansas State on Saturday. The Cyclones’ next three games are all against ranked opponents.

 

17. Memphis (15-4, 5-2 AAC). Last week: 19

Memphis has won its last three games by an average of 22.7 points. The Tigers look to stay hot on the road this week against UCF and SMU.

 

18. Duke (16-4, 5-2 ACC). Last week: 20

Duke blew out Miami (FL) and Florida State last week to move within 1.5 games of Syracuse in the ACC standings. The Blue Devils have a huge week coming up with road games against Pittsburgh and the Orange.

 

19. Creighton (17-3, 7-1 Big East). Last week: 25

After losing to Providence, Creighton demolished No. 4 Villanova, 96-68, on the road. The Bluejays followed that with a 13-point win at Georgetown.

 

20. Massachusetts (17-2, 4-1 A10). Last week: 15

Massachusetts suffered its first Atlantic 10 loss of the season at Richmond but bounced back with an easy victory against Fordham. The Minutemen will play at St. Bonaventure and St. Joe’s this week.

 

21. Ohio State (16-4, 3-4 Big Ten). Last week: 11

Ohio State ended its four-game losing streak Thursday with a win against Illinois. The Buckeyes host Penn State Wednesday and then face a brutal road trip with games at Wisconsin and Iowa.

 

22. Oklahoma (16-4, 5-2 Big 12). Last week: 21

Oklahoma has won three straight games after defeating TCU and Texas Tech last week. The Cowboys can make a major statement with games against Oklahoma State and Iowa State this week.

 

23. St. Louis (18-2, 5-0 A10). Last week: 23

St. Louis has continued to dominate the Atlantic 10, sitting alone in first place. The Billikens are at home this week against Richmond and George Mason.

 

24. Pittsburgh (18-2, 6-1 ACC). Last week: Unranked

Pittsburgh bounced back from its loss at Syracuse with wins against Clemson and Maryland. The Panther host Duke on Monday night.

 

25. Texas (16-4, 5-2 Big 12). Last week: Unranked

Texas has emerged as a Big 12 contender with five straight wins. Last week the Longhorns beat Kansas State and Baylor, and Saturday they host Kansas.
