Top 25 Rankings for the Week of December 2

1. Michigan State (7-0). Last week: 1

In its only game of the week, Michigan State defeated Mount St. Mary’s, 98-65. The undefeated Spartans host North Carolina on Wednesday night.


2. Kentucky (7-1). Last week: 4

Kentucky is back where it started the season at No. 2 with wins against Eastern Michigan and Providence last week. The Wildcats will try again for their first Top 25 win of the season against Baylor on Friday.


3. Arizona (7-0). Last week: 5

Arizona picked up its second good win away from home, defeating Duke 72-66 at Madison Square Garden. The Wildcats return home to face Texas Tech on Tuesday.


4. Ohio State (6-0). Last week: 7

Ohio State has won all six of its games by at least 10 points. The Buckeyes continue their homestand this week against Maryland and Central Connecticut State.


5. Oklahoma State (7-1). Last week: 6

Oklahoma State was dealt its first loss of the season by Memphis, sending it to a second-place finish at the Old Spice Classic. The Cowboys return home to face South Carolina this week.


6. Kansas (6-1). Last week: 2

Kansas finished third at the Battle 4 Atlantis with wins against Wake Forest and UTEP and a loss to Villanova. The Jayhawks continue their road trip at Colorado this week.


7. Syracuse (7-0). Last week: 9

Syracuse defeated Minnesota, California, and Baylor to win the Maui Invitational last week. The Orange face another quality opponent, Indiana, on Tuesday.


8. Louisville (6-1). Last week: 8

Louisville responded from its disappointing loss to North Carolina with a dominating win against Southern Miss, one of the top teams in Conference USA. The Cardinals will host UMKC and Louisiana-Lafayette this week.


9. Wisconsin (8-0). Last week: 10

Wisconsin continued its dominating start to the season with wins against Saint Louis and West Virginia at the Cancun Challenge. The Badgers have another tough week coming up with games against Virginia and Marquette.


10. Duke (6-2). Last week: 3

Duke’s five-game winning streak ended on Friday with a loss to Arizona at Madison Square Garden. The Blue Devils face Michigan, their second straight Top-25 opponent, on Tuesday night.


11. UCLA (7-0). Last week: 11

UCLA went 2-0 at the Las Vegas Invitational with strong showings against Nevada and Northwestern. The Bruins host UC Santa Barbara and then play at Missouri this week.


12. Wichita State (8-0). Last week: 21

Wichita State had as impressive of a week as anyone with wins against Brigham Young and Saint Louis away from home.


13. Florida (6-1). Last week: 14

Florida survived Florida State’s upset bid on Friday thanks to a late free throw by Dorian Finney-Smith. The Gators’ next three games are all against teams ranked in the AP Top 25: Connecticut, Kansas, and Memphis.


14. Connecticut (7-0). Last week: 18

Connecticut remained undefeated with a win against Loyola (MD) last week. The Huskies will host Florida and Maine this week.


15. Iowa State (5-0). Last week: 16

Iowa State had no trouble with UMKC in its only game last week. The Cyclones will host the struggling Auburn Tigers on Monday night.


16. Massachusetts (6-0). Last week: 17

UMass will look to remain undefeated this week with games against Eastern Michigan and Brigham Young.


17. Baylor (7-1). Last week: 15

Baylor’s undefeated season ended with a loss to Syracuse in the Maui Invitational championship game. The Bears will face another big test when they play Kentucky on Friday.


18. Michigan (5-2). Last week: 19

Michigan bounced back from its loss to Charlotte with an easy win against Coppin State. The Wolverines will travel southeast to face Duke on Tuesday.


19. Oregon (7-0). Last week: Unranked

Oregon had no trouble winning the Global Sports Challenge with victories over Pacific, North Dakota, and Cal Poly. The Ducks hit the road this weekend to face Ole Miss.


20. Villanova (7-0). Last week: Unranked

Villanova took home the crown at the Battle 4 Atlantis with upset victories against Kansas and Iowa. The Wildcats play their first Big 5 game of the season against Penn on Wednesday.


21. Notre Dame (5-1). Last week: 22

Notre Dame had no trouble disposing of Cornell on Sunday. The Fighting Irish will play their first road game at Iowa on Tuesday.


22. Memphis (5-1). Last week: Unranked

Memphis defeated Siena, LSU, and Oklahoma State to win the Old Spice Classic. The Tigers have now won four straight since being blown out by Oklahoma State in their first meeting with the Cowboys.


23. Gonzaga (7-1). Last week: 13

Gonzaga lost its first game at the Maui Invitational but bounced back with wins against Chaminade and Arkansas to finish fifth.


24. Boise State (6-0). Last week: 23

Boise State remained perfect with wins against Idaho and Portland State. The Broncos host Utah this week.


25. Virginia (7-1). Last week: Unranked

Virginia has won six straight games since losing at the last second to Virginia Commonwealth. The Cavaliers can get their first marquee win against Wisconsin on Wednesday night.
