Top 25 Rankings for the Week of Dec. 1

1. Kentucky (7-0). Last week: 1

Kentucky hosted a talented Providence team Sunday and dominated down the stretch in a 58-38 win. The Wildcats have another big home game Friday against Texas.

2. Wisconsin (7-0). Last week: 2

Wisconsin knocked off Oklahoma, Georgetown and UAB last week to win the Battle 4 Atlantis. The tough road continues for the Badgers with games against Duke and Marquette this week.

3. Arizona (6-0). Last week: 3

Arizona defeated Missouri, Kansas State and San Diego State to win the Maui Invitational. After a cupcake against Gardner-Webb, the Wildcats will host Gonzaga on Saturday.

4. Duke (7-0). Last week: 4

Duke blew past Furman and Army this week to improve to 7-0. The Blue Devils’ play at Wisconsin on Wednesday, and you should make sure to get in front of a TV for that one.

5. Villanova (6-0). Last week: 7

Villanova defeated VCU and Michigan to win the Legends Classic and then blew out Delaware. This week the Wildcats have a pair of Big Five opponents on tap in La Salle and St. Joseph’s.

6. Virginia (7-0). Last week: 6

Virginia defeated La Salle and Rutgers over the weekend to win the Barclays Center Classic. The Cavaliers play their first true road games this week since their season opener agains James Madison, facing Maryland and VCU.

7. Wichita State (4-0). Last week: 8

Wichita State beat Tulsa by 20 points Saturday and has won all four of its games by double figures. The Shockers head to Utah for a Wednesday matchup.

8. Gonzaga (6-0). Last week: 9

Gonzaga continued to look like a legitimate national title contender last week with wins against Georgia and St. John’s at the NIT Season Tip-Off.  The Bulldogs get another shot for a big win Saturday at Arizona.

9. Louisville (5-0). Last week: 10

After demolishing Savannah State, Louisville had some trouble with Cleveland State. But the Cardinals eked out a 45-33 win after leading by just five points late in the second half.

10. North Carolina (5-1). Last week: 5

North Carolina played in the losers’ bracket of the Battle 4 Atlantis after losing to Butler, but the Tar Heels picked up two quality wins there against UCLA and Florida.

11. Kansas (5-1). Last week: 11

Kansas has responded well since getting blown out by Kentucky. The Jayhawks have won five games in a row and took home an Orlando Classic title last week, defeating Rhode Island, Tennessee and Michigan State.

12. Texas (6-0). Last week: 13

With stating point guard Isaiah Taylor hurt, Texas still knocked off Connecticut on the road Sunday thanks to some late heroics by forward Jonathan Holmes. The Longhorns play another big road game Friday at Kentucky.

13. San Diego State (5-1). Last week: 14

San Diego State knocked off BYU and Pittsburgh at the Maui Invitational but lost to Arizona in the tournament championship. The Aztecs get another shot at a Pac-12 opponent when they travel to Washington on Sunday.

14. Ohio State (5-0). Last week: 15

Ohio State blew out Campbell and James Madison last week to remain unbeaten. The Buckeyes hit the road for the first time when they play at Louisville on Tuesday.

15. Iowa State (3-1). Last week: 12

Iowa State fell to Maryland in the CBE Hall of Fame Classic championship game. The Cyclones have another big game Thursday when they host Arkansas.

16. Miami Fla. (7-0). Last week: 24

Miami defeated Charlotte for a second time and then knocked off South Alabama to continue its hot start. The Hurricanes are at home this week, but they face a pair of tough opponents in Illinois and Green Bay.

17. Oklahoma (4-2). Last week: 17

Oklahoma defeated UCLA and Butler at the Battle 4 Atlantis but lost to Wisconsin in the championship game. The Sooners return home this week to face Missouri.

18. West Virginia (7-0). Last week: 18

West Virginia improved to 7-0 with a win against College of Charleston on Saturday. The Mountaineers host LSU this week. With the Tigers early season, it would be no surprise to see the Mountaineers move to 8-0.

19. VCU (4-2). Last week: 16

VCU has played a tough schedule and lost two of its last three games. The Rams have another difficult week ahead with games against Virginia and Illinois State.

20. Providence (6-1). Lsat week: 19

Providence’s perfect start to the season ended with a 58-38 loss at Kentucky. The Friars were close hung with the top-ranked team for about 30 minutes before the Wildcats pulled away.

21. Michigan (5-1). Last week: 23

Michigan lost to Villanova in the Legends Classic finals but bounced back with an easy win against Nicholls State. The Wolverines host Syracuse on Tuesday in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge.

22. Maryland (7-0). Last week: Unranked

Maryland has had a rough go the last two games without Dez Wells, but with Wells the Terrapins defeated Iowa State to win the CBE Hall of Fame Classic.

23. Michigan State (5-2). Last week: 21

Michigan State defeated Rider and Marquette at the Orlando Classic but lost to Kansas in the tournament’s championship game. Next up for the Spartans is a Big Ten/ACC Challenge game at Notre Dame.

24. Arkansas (6-0). Last week: Unranked

Arkansas joins the Top 25 after getting respectable wins against Southern Methodist and Iona last week. The Razorbacks can get a marquee win Thursday at Iowa State.

25. Nebraska (4-1). Last week: 25

Nebraska struggled a bit with Nebraska-Omaha and Tennessee-Martin last week but still won both games by double digits. The Cornhuskers will be tested this week against Creighton and a depleted Florida State team.
