Rick Carter, Billy Garrett join Leitao’s staff at DePaul

Former Xavier coach Rick Carter and longtime DePaul assistant Billy Garrett officially joined the staff of new Blue Demons head coach Dave Leitao, the school announced Friday.

Carter joins as associate head coach after being an assistant at Xavier the last two seasons. He has spent most of his career in the Midwest, also spending time on the staff at Missouri, Western Michigan and Michigan State.

Garrett entered the DePaul program under former coach Jerry Wainwright in 2009 and remained on the staff throughout Oliver Purnell‘s tenure.

“We are excited to announce the addition of Rick Carter to our staff and Billy Garrett continuing his tenure at DePaul,” Leitao said in a statement. “Both Rick and Billy bring extensive recruiting experience locally in Chicago, regionally in the Midwest and throughout the nation. Rick’s relentless energy with our current roster and in recruiting future players will be contagious for everyone involved in the program. I’ve known Billy for a long time on the recruiting trail. His resources and experience are invaluable for us as we move forward with the DePaul basketball program.”
