Northern Kentucky will join the Horizon League for all sports, local Fox reporter Joe Danneman tweeted Saturday. The move is pending board approval Monday.

The Norse will become the Horizon League’s 10th member and are the first addition since the conference acquired Oakland in 2013.

Adding Northern Kentucky brings another basketball-minded school on the rise to the conference. The Norse have competed in Division I for only three seasons but have been fairly competitive in the Atlantic Sun.

This past season, Northern Kentucky went 13-17 with a 7-7 Atlantic Sun record.

However, the will likely take a step back following a coaching change and the loss of leading scorerĀ Tayler Persons.

The inclusion of Northern Kentucky also gives Wright State a natural rival in the conference. The two schools are separated by just more than a one-hour drive.
