For the first time in program history, UIC players have won Horizon League Player of the Week and Freshman of the Week during same week.
Sophomore center Tai Odiase earned Player of the Week, sharing the award with Oakland guard Kay Felder. Forward Dikembe Dixson was named Freshman of the Week for the seventh time this season.
Odiase averaged 15 points, seven rebounds and eight blocks in wins against Wright State and Northern Kentucky. His rejection on the final possession of a 79-77 victory against Northern Kentucky not only saved the game but also tied a single-game program record with nine blocks.
Dixson recorded 23.5 points and 9.5 rebounds in the two victories. The 6-foot-7 forward has now tied Felder for most Freshman of the Week awards in Horizon League history. He has two more weeks to set a new conference record.
