If New Mexico State is going to grab the nation’s eye with a run in the 2014 NCAA Tournament, it will do so without starting guard K.C. Ross-Miller. Las Cruces Sun-News writer Jason Groves tweeted Monday night that McKinley Boston, New Mexico State’s athletic director, said Ross-Miller will not travel with the team or play in the postseason.

Ross-Miller, a junior guard, was involved in a post-game altercation on the court in New Mexico State’s Feb. 27 loss at Utah Valley. Ross-Miller chucked the basketball at Utah Valley guard Holton Hunsaker as the final buzzer sounded, and a fight then ensued between Aggies players and Utah Valley fans, who stormed the floor after the win.
Ross-Miller was suspended for the final two games of the regular season and all three WAC Tournament games. It now appears that suspension will carry through the rest of the Aggies’ season, however long it lasts.
13th-seeded New Mexico State faces No. 4 seed San Diego State on Thursday in the Round of 64. Even without Ross-Miller, the Aggies have the pieces to upset the Aztecs and make a postseason run. But doing so without their top distributor makes life more difficult for head coach Marvin Menzies.
Groves later tweeted Boston would not comment on Ross-Miller’s future with the program.
