This marks the Bears’ second-ever appearance in the CIT. They won the tournament in 2010.

Missouri State stumbled down the stretch of this past season. The Bears dropped games in mid-February to Northern Iowa and Illinois State before sweeping its final homestand with victories against Indiana State and Loyola (Chicago). They were then torn apart by Wichita State in their final regular season game.

At the MVC Tournament, Missouri State defeated Illinois State and was then, once again, blown out by Wichita State in the semifinals.

Murray State is playing postseason ball for the fourth time in the last five seasons. The Racers fell to Missouri State in the first round of the 2011 NIT.

Murray State rattled off five straight wins at the end of February before losing its final regular season game at Southeast Missouri State. The Racers then lost their first game in the OVC Tournament to eventual champion Eastern Kentucky.
