Mid-Major Rankings for the Week of November 25

1. Gonzaga (4-0). Last week: 1

Gonzaga takes its undefeated record to the Maui Invitational this week. The Zags open the tournament against Dayton, which is also 4-0.

 

2. Wichita State (5-0). Last week: 3

Wichita State enters the CBE Classic with a perfect record. The Shockers face DePaul on Monday and then either Brigham Young or Texas on Tuesday.

 

3. Harvard (4-1). Last week: 2

Harvard picked up its first loss of the season Sunday at Colorado. The Crimson will play in the Great Alaska Shootout this week, opening against Denver on Friday.

 

4. Brigham Young (4-1). Last week: 4

Brigham Young was defeated by a hot Iowa State team on Wednesday, but the Cougars could make up for it at the CBE Classic this week. They will face Texas on Monday and then either Wichita State or DePaul.

 

5. Indiana State (3-1). Last week: 5

In its only game of the week, Indiana State defeated Truman State. The Sycamores open the Great Alaska Shootout this week against Tulsa, and they could face quality mid-majors Harvard, Green Bay, and Denver later in the tournament.

 

6. Belmont (6-1/5-2). Last week: 6

Belmont has won five straight games since losing to Richmond on November 11. The Bruins will be tested against Virginia Commonwealth on Sunday.

 

7. Southern Miss (6-0). Last week: 7

Southern Miss went 4-0 last week with wins against North Dakota State, South Alabama, Houston Baptist, and William Carey. The Golden Eagles have a tall task ahead with a game at Louisville on Friday night.

 

8. St. Mary’s (5-0). Last week: 9

In its only game of the week, St. Mary’s blew out Alcorn State. The Gaels will host Murray State on Saturday.

 

9. Charlotte (5-1). Last week: Unranked

Charlotte has been one of the biggest surprises early in the season. The 49ers defeated Kansas State, Northeastern, and Michigan last week to win the Puerto Rico Tip-Off, and their only loss this season came at Charleston by one point.

 

10. Towson (3-2). Last week: 8

Towson had two chances for upsets last week, but it was overwhelmed by both Villanova and Kansas. The Tigers return home to face UMBC and The Citadel this week.

 

11. Louisiana Tech (2-1). Last week: 10

Louisiana Tech takes a two-game winning streak to the Gulf Coast Showcase, where it faces UNC Greensboro on Monday.

 

12. Manhattan (3-1). Last week: 12

Manhattan picked up its third road win of the season, defeating Illinois State, 79-70, on Wednesday. The Jaspers return home to face crosstown rival Fordham on Tuesday.

 

13. Toledo (6-0). Last week: 21

Toledo won all three games at its 2K Sports Classic subregional with wins against Stony Brook, Detroit, and Florida Atlantic.

 

14. Eastern Kentucky (6-1). Last week: 16

Eastern Kentucky takes a four-game winning streak to North Carolina State on Saturday.

 

15. Florida Gulf Coast (4-1). Last week: 14

Florida Gulf Coast had no trouble disposing of Eckerd and Ave Maria last week to improve to 4-1. The Eagles play at North Carolina State, which was upset by North Carolina Central last week, on Tuesday night.

 

16. Mercer (4-2). Last week: 11

Mercer has won its last two games, defeating Johnson & Wales and Yale. The Bears are back on the road this week against Ohio and Valparaiso.

 

17. Green Bay (2-1). Last week: 18

Green Bay easily defeated Minnesota-Duluth in its lone game last week. The Phoenix will play in the Great Alaska Shootout this week with high-quality opponents Harvard, Indiana State, and Denver also in the field.

 

18. New Mexico State (5-1). Last week: 23

Since losing its season opener, New Mexico State has now won five straight games, including three away from home.

 

19. Drexel (3-1). Last week: Unranked

Drexel has won three straight games and its only loss is by five points at UCLA. With wins against Elon and Rutgers last week, the Dragons advanced to the NIT Season Tip-Off semifinals at Madison Square Garden, where they face Arizona.

 

20. Boston U (4-2). Last week: 15

After losing to Eastern Washington on Friday, Boston bounced back with wins against UC Irvine and LIU-Brooklyn.

 

21. San Diego (5-0). Last week: Unranked

San Diego is yet to lose and has won three of its last four games by double digits. The Toreros will compete at the Gulf Coast Showcase this week.

 

22. North Dakota State (2-3). Last week: 13

North Dakota State’s early season struggles continued with an 18-point loss at in-state rival North Dakota on Sunday. The Bison wrap up their three-game road trip at Santa Clara on Friday.

 

23. Weber State (0-2). Last week: 22

Weber State is back on the court Tuesday after a 10-day rest. The Wildcats will face undefeated Utah State.

 

24. Georgia State (2-2). Last week: 20

Georgia State will finish its four-game road trip at Florida International on Saturday.

 

25. Denver (0-2). Last week: 24

Denver enters the Great Alaska Shootout at 0-2, and it has a very tough opening matchup against Harvard.
