Mid-Major Rankings for the Week of December 9

1. Wichita State (9-0). Last week: 1

Wichita State remained undefeated with a win over Oral Roberts on Saturday night. The Shockers will host Tennessee this weekend.

 

2. Gonzaga (8-1). Last week: 2

Gonzaga held off New Mexico State on Saturday night for its fourth straight win. The Zags can get their third win against a BCS team when they play at West Virginia on Tuesday.

 

3. Harvard (9-1). Last week: 3

Harvard defeated Northeastern and Boston University last week to extend its winning streak to five games. The Crimson takes a break for finals, but it returns at home against Vermont on Dec. 21.

 

4. Brigham Young (7-3). Last week: 4

BYU lost at unbeaten Massachusetts on Saturday, falling to 1-2 against Top 25 competition. The Cougars return home for Prairie View A&M on Wednesday.

 

5. St. Mary’s (7-0). Last week: 5

St. Mary’s defeated Eastern Washington on Sunday for its third straight win by double figures. The Gaels hit the road for the first time this season against Boise State on Saturday.

 

6. Belmont (8-2). Last week: 7

Belmont bounced back from its loss to VCU with a win at Middle Tennessee. The Bruins will host Fairfield on Wednesday.

 

7. Southern Miss (8-1). Last week: 10

After receiving a beating from Louisville, Southern Miss rebounded with wins against Morehead State and Georgia State. The Golden Eagles are now the only one-loss team remaining in Conference USA.

 

8. Toledo (8-0). Last week: 12

Toledo remained unbeaten with wins against Detroit and Robert Morris. The Rockets host a tough Sam Houston State squad on Saturday.

 

9. Indiana State (6-2). Last week: 11

Indiana State began its three-game road trip with a win at Eastern Illinois on Saturday. The Sycamores will face UMKC this weekend.

 

10. Drexel (6-2). Last week: 13

Drexel played triple overtime for the second straight time Wednesday when it defeated Cleveland State, and then it took care of Tennessee State in regulation Saturday.

 

11. Green Bay (5-2). Last week: 15

In its return home, Green Bay knocked off Virginia, 75-72. The Phoenix are back on the road this week to face Eastern Michigan and South Dakota.

 

12. Louisiana Tech (7-2). Last week: 8

Louisiana Tech lost to Louisiana-Lafayette but bounced back with a win against Southern. The Bulldogs will host Northwestern State and Oklahoma State this week.

 

13. Charlotte (7-2). Last week: 6

Charlotte was upset at home by Davidson, but the 49ers then won Sunday at Appalachian State.

 

14. Manhattan (6-2, 2-0 MAAC). Last week: 17

Manhattan opened its MAAC season with victories against Marist and Monmouth. Entering a four-game road trip, the Jaspers have won three games in a row.

 

15. Eastern Kentucky (7-3). Last week: 14

Eastern Kentucky nearly knocked off VCU on the road, but it lost by three points in overtime. The Colonels came back over the weekend with a win at Longwood. Next up is top-10, undefeated Wisconsin.

 

16. UAB (7-2). Last week: 19

UAB won at Northeastern on Saturday for its third straight win. The Blazers will host Georgia Southern this week.

 

17. New Mexico State (7-4). Last week: 16

New Mexico State played as tough of a week as anyone with games against New Mexico and Gonzaga, but the Aggies lost both. Things don’t get much easier as they play at Arizona and Drake this week.

 

18. Boston U (6-3). Last week: 18

Boston’s four-game winning streak ended Saturday with an overtime loss to Harvard. The Terriers play a big, talented George Washington team Wednesday.

 

19. North Dakota State (6-3). Last week: 20

North Dakota State defeated Valley City State and Bryant last week to extend its winning streak to four games. The Bison put that on the line this week at Notre Dame and Ohio State.

 

20. Iona (5-2, 2-0 MAAC). Last week: 24

Iona defeated Marist and Fairfield last week to begin MAAC play at 2-0. The Gaels return to their non-conference slate against Saint Bonaventure on Saturday.

 

21. Missouri State (7-1). Last week: 23

In its only game of the week, Missouri State defeated Division II Cameron. The Bears will play at Oral Roberts on Friday.

 

22. Pacific (7-1). Last week: Unranked

Pacific cracks this week’s rankings after winning at Utah State. The Tigers’ only loss so far this season is at Oregon.

 

23. Towson (6-4). Last week: 9

Towson’s road woes continued last week with losses to Stephen F. Austin and Sam Houston State. The Tigers’ play a cupcake at home against Central Pennsylvania this week.

 

24. Princeton (6-1). Last week: Unranked

Princeton has won five straight games, and its only loss this season is by three points at Butler. The Tigers will play at Rutgers and Penn State this week.

 

25. Ohio (6-2). Last week: 22

Ohio’s five-game winning streak ended Saturday with a 17-point loss at Oakland.
