Loyola to host San Diego State in 2016 Mountain West-MVC Challenge

Loyola will host perennial Mountain West contender San Diego State in the 2016 Mountain West-MVC Challenge, the leagues announced Tuesday. The game will be Dec. 3, 2016 at Gentile Arena.

After playing the annual challenge for four seasons from 2009 to 2012, the Missouri Valley and Mountain West took a break for two seasons before renewing the event for four years, starting with the 2015-16 season.

The Mountain West won this year’s challenge 6-4. Loyola lost 75-51 at New Mexico in the event.

Matchups for the 2016 challenge are based on several factors, such as recent achievements, records and RPI rankings. The conferences also factor in how teams are projected to perform in the relevant season.
