Illinois State transfer Zach Lofton took to Twitter on Wednesday to announce that he will be joining Minnesota for his final two years of eligibility.

In his lone year as a Redbird, Lofton averaged 11.3 points but shot just 33.9% from the field. He showed flashes of being an electric scorer, which is something the Golden Gophers could use in 2015-16 after Andre Hollins departs. Lofton led Illinois State to an early-season upset of Northwestern with 15 points, and he shone at the MVC Tournament with a career-high 25 points against Missouri State in the quarterfinals.

However, Lofton can also be very erratic. Just check his 3-of-18 night against Wichita State or his 3-of-16 performance against Drexel.

Plus, Lofton comes to Minneapolis with some baggage. He was suspended for the Redbirds’ postseason run in the CBI for undisclosed reasons.

If Lofton can get things straightened out on and off the court, he has the potential to do some damage in the Big Ten starting in the 2015-16 season.
