Illinois College Basketball Rankings for the Week of November 25

Voters: Jesse Kramer (The Catch and Shoot), Beau Spencer (My Summit League), Tom Fornelli (The Champaign Room), Mark Primiano (The Champaign Room), Loretta8 (Sippin’ On Purple), Sean Hammond (The Daily Illini), Johnathan Hettinger (The Daily Illini), Erik Prado (The Daily Illini), Chris Johnson (Inside Northwestern), Kevin Trahan (Inside Northwestern).

1. Illinois (5-0), 130 Points. Last week: 1

Illinois remains the unanimous No. 1 team after beating Bradley and Chicago State with ease. The Illini hit the road for the first time this season on Wednesday, when they take on UNLV.


2. DePaul (3-1), 120 Points. Last week: 2

DePaul defeated a tough Milwaukee team on the road Tuesday for its second straight win. This is the first time the Blue Demons have won back-to-back games since last December.

They will play in the CBE Classic this week against Wichita State on Monday and either Brigham Young or Texas on Tuesday.


3. Northwestern (3-2), 104 points. Last week: 3

Northwestern responded to its home loss to Illinois State with a 93-58 blowout of UIC on the road. The Wildcats then struggled at home against IUPUI, needing a last-second shot by JerShon Cobb to get a victory.

The Cats host another mid-major in Gardner Webb on Monday but then face Missouri and UCLA during the second half of the week in Las Vegas.


4. Illinois State (1-3), 99 points. Last week: 4

Illinois State dropped to 1-3 with a home loss to Manhattan. The Redbirds will play in the Golden Gate Challenge this week with games against Vermont, San Francisco, and Sonoma State.


5. Bradley (4-2), 95 points. Last week: 5

Bradley has lost two straight games since starting 4-0. That being said, the two losses were on the road to Illinois and Arizona State. Next up for the Braves is Texas-Pan American on Saturday.


6. Eastern Illinois (3-2), 70 points. Last week: 6

Eastern Illinois bounced back from a drubbing at Purdue with an easy win against NAIA Roosevelt. The Panthers host IPFW on Wednesday and then are back on the road this weekend against Western Kentucky.


7. Southern Illinois (1-3), 68 points. Last week: 7

Southern Illinois picked up its first win of the season against Division II Missouri Science & Technology. The Salukis will compete in the Gulf Coast Showcase this week, starting on Monday against Saint Bonaventure.


8. Loyola (3-4), 62 points. Last week: 8

Loyola ended its four-game losing streak against Division I teams with a 73-72 victory against SIU-Edwardsville on Sunday. The Ramblers’ four-game road trip concludes at Mississippi State this week.


9. Western Illinois (1-3), 49 points. Last week: 10

Western Illinois defeated Eureka on Thursday for its first win of the 2013-14 season. The Leathernecks will travel south to Southeastern Louisiana on Tuesday.


10. UIC (1-3), 42 points. Last week 9

UIC will also compete at the Gulf Coast Showcase this week. The Flames’ first game of the tournament is against 5-0 San Diego.


11. Chicago State (2-4), 37 points. Last week: 11

Chicago State was swept on its three-game road trip by Bradley, Alabama State, and Illinois. The Cougars return home to face Southern Illinois on Saturday afternoon.


12. SIU-Edwardsville (1-5), 18 points. Last week: T-12

SIU-Edwardsville has lost its last three games by a combined nine points.


13. Northern Illinois (2-3), 16 points. Last week: T-12

Northern Illinois had no trouble with St. Joseph’s (IN) on Sunday for its second win of the season. The Huskies play at Nebraska on Saturday.
