Missouri State came to the ARC on Saturday playing its best basketball in over a season, but Valparaiso blew right past the Bears for a 74-45 win.
Junior forward Alec Peters led the Crusaders with 19 points and 10 rebounds for his third double-double of the season.
Missouri State (4-7) stayed close deep into the first half, trailing 26-19 with 2:35 until halftime. Then a 3-point barrage from Valparaiso (10-2) sent the Bears into the break in a 35-23 hole.
Valparaiso’s successful outside shooting continued to start the second half. Within three minutes, the Crusaders built a 20-point advantage.
Valparaiso shot 12-of-29 beyond the arc to Missouri State’s 1-of-10. Peters and sophomore guard Tevonn Walker each had three triples. Walker finished with 18 points.
The Crusaders have the next eight days off before finishing non-conference play Dec. 28 at Belmont.
