DePaul’s struggles continue with loss to Ohio at Diamond Head Classic

Following its best seven-game start in more than 20 years, DePaul has lost five straight games to fall to 6-6. The Blue Demons were defeated Tuesday by Ohio (4-5), 99-78, at the Diamond Head Classic.

DePaul senior forward Jamee Crockett got the game started with a jumper on the opening possession. After that, Ohio scored nine straight points and never trailed again.

The Blue Demons clung within two points after sophomore guard Billy Garrett Jr.‘s triple with 6:07 to go in the half, but they fell behind 44-30 at the break.

Ohio led by at least 11 points the entire second half and held a lead as large as 27 points.

Five Bobcats reached double figures in scoring, led by Javarez Willis‘ 31 points on 11-for-18 shooting. Willis also dished out six assists.

Maurice Daly Ndour and Antonio Campbell each recorded double-doubles.

Sophomore guard Darrick Wood led DePaul with 15 points off the bench, and reserve forward Forrest Robinson added 12 points.

Garrett and sophomore forward Tommy Hamilton each tallied 13 points.

The Blue Demons will face either Nebraska or Loyola Marymount in the tournament’s seventh-place game Thursday.
