Chicago Weekly Awards: Dec. 15

Time for the weekly Chicago awards. Every week, The Catch and Shoot will name a Player of the Week and Freshman of the Week from the six schools in the Greater Chicago Area: DePaul, Northwestern, UIC, Loyola, Chicago State and Valparaiso.

Here are the awards for the past week.

Player of the Week

There were several impressive scoring performances from local players last week, but UIC senior Jay Harris‘ topped the list. Harris, a 6-foot-1 guard, poured in a career-high 32 points on 9-for-16 shooting. The Wagner transfer also shot 10-for-12 at the foul line and drained four 3-pointers.

Harris is averaging 16.9 points this season, good for No. 6 in the Horizon League.

Honorable mentions: Jamee Crockett, DePaul; Earl Peterson, Loyola

Freshman of the Week

After honorable mentions each of the previous two weeks, Northwestern point guard Bryant McIntosh has won his second Chicago Freshman of the Week award this season. McIntosh turned in 15 points on 6-for-8 shooting along with six assists in Northwestern’s 101-49 win against Mississippi Valley State.

After a rough patch in late November and early December, McIntosh is averaging 13.5 points and 5.5 assists in his last two games.
