Breaking down DePaul’s 2014-15 schedule

With Tuesday’s release of the Big East schedule, DePaul’s slate for the 2014-15 season is now complete. Once again, things are not looking good for the Blue Demons, with another expected finish at the bottom of the conference.

DePaul eases its way into the 2014-15 season with its season opener at home against UIC. The Flames are coming off a 6-25. The Blue Demons should be 3-0 to start the season with games against Drake and Lehigh following. They close off November with a tough matchup against Stanford.

The Blue Demons face the local market to begin December. They host Northern Illinois and then travel to the South Side to face Chicago State, which nearly knocked off DePaul at Allstate Arena last season.

Dec. 7 marks the beginning of a tough finish to DePaul’s non-conference schedule. The Blue Demons host Milwaukee and then travel to George Washington on Dec. 11. Both opponents played in last year’s NCAA Tournament. They return home to face rising MVC squad Illinois State and then Pac-12 foe Oregon State.

Those games lead into the Diamond Head Classic, an 8-team tournament which DePaul opens against Colorado. The Blue Demons could also face probable top-25 teams Wichita State and Nebraska, and they could also rematch George Washington.

DePaul begins Big East play on New Year’s Eve at home against Marquette. As with last year, the Big East schedule is an 18-game round-robin with every team playing every other team in the conference twice: once at home, once on the road.
