Big Ten announces first Player and Freshman of the Week honors

It’s only a few days into the college basketball season, but after opening weekend the Big Ten announced its first Player of the Week and Freshman of the Week.

Michigan State guard Travis Trice took home Player of the Week honors for the first time. The senior posted a career-high 25 points along with five rebounds as five assists as the Spartans defeated Navy, 64-59. He played turnover-free and shot 5-for-6 from beyond the arc.

Purdue forward Vince Edwards earned Freshman of the Week after impressing twice in the opening weekend. Edwards recorded 13 points and eight rebounds in his debut against Samford. He followed that with 26 points, eight boards and three blocks against IUPUI.
