Wichita State wins 4th straight MVC title, but Alize Johnson had the play of the day

Wichita State pulled away from Missouri State in an 86-67 win Saturday to clinch at least a share of its fourth straight MVC title, but Bears forward Alize Johnson had the highlight of the afternoon in his team’s loss.

Midway through the second half with Missouri State still hanging around, Johnson took a fast break pass from Dequon Miller and exploded to the rim with one hand, posterizing Shockers freshman Landry Shamet.

Shamet may have wound up on the wrong end of this play, but he was the best player on the floor Saturday with 23 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists.

Wichita State will win the conference title outright if Illinois State loses at Northern Iowa later today. But if the Redbirds win, they’ll share the conference crown, and the Shockers will fall to the No. 2 seed at Arch Madness.
