UIC head coach Howard Moore has been fired from his position and will not return for the 2015-16 season, the school announced Tuesday.

Moore was 49-111 in five seasons at UIC, including a 10-24 campaign in 2014-15. He had only one winning season, and the other four all had at least 22 losses.

“I want to thank Howard Moore for his five years of commitment to UIC Athletics,” athletic director Jim Schmidt said in a release. “We have high expectations and aspire to be at the top of the Horizon League and we have not met our competitive goals. We have dedicated and talented student-athletes in the basketball program who are committed and make us optimistic for the future. I wish Howard the very best of luck going forward.”

Moore’s ability to recruit the Chicago area should help land another high-level assistant coaching job down the road.

Moore said in a tweet, “I would like to thank the UIC Admin for giving us the opportunity to coach in the greatest city in the world!”

The UIC athletic department will begin a search for a new coach immediately.
