UChicago loses on buzzer-beating goaltend

UChicago dropped its conference opener Saturday in the most heartbreaking fashion. In a tie game, Washington University’s Jake Knupp missed a game-winning attempt, and teammate Clinton Cook grabbed the tipped rebound at the top of the key and in one motion threw the ball toward the rim.

With the shot on its way down, UChicago’s Blaine Crawford tipped the ball away from the basket.

Maybe he thought the shot came after the buzzer. Or maybe his brain went idle for a second and he thought that once the buzzer sounds the game is over.

Either way, at least it wasn’t in the NCAA Tournament.
