1. Kentucky (6-0). Last week: 1
Kentucky kept cruising with wins against Boston University and South Florida last week. Next up, the Wildcats host Illinois State on Monday.
2. Michigan State (7-0). Last week: 2
Michigan State took home the Wooden Legacy title, defeating Providence, Boise State and Boston College. The Spartans began a four-game home stand Wednesday against Louisville.
3. Maryland (6-0). Last week: 3
Maryland pulled away Saturday from Cleveland State to stay unbeaten. The Terrapins travel to North Carolina this week for the Big Ten/ACC Challenge.
4. Oklahoma (4-0). Last week: 4
Oklahoma trounced Wisconsin, 65-48, to remain perfect. The Sooners have a light week with their only game coming Thursday against Central Arkansas.
5. North Carolina (5-1). Last week: 6
North Carolina took home the CBE Hall of Fame Classic title last week, defeating Northwestern and Kansas State. The Tar Heels can get their first big win of the season Tuesday when they face Maryland in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge.
6. Villanova (6-0). Last week: 8
Villanova took home the NIT Season Tip-Off crown, defeating Stanford and Georgia Tech in Brooklyn. The Wildcats’ only matchup of the coming week is at St. Joseph’s.
7. Kansas (4-1). Last week: 9
An impressive trip to Maui brought the Jayhawks wins against Vanderbilt and UCLA. Kansas now begins a five-game home stand Tuesday.
8. Iowa State (5-0). Last week: 10
Iowa State knocked off Virginia Tech and Illinois to win the Emerald Coast Classic.
9. Duke (6-1). Last week: 11
Duke defended its home court last week, defeating Yale and Utah State. The Blue Devils continue their home stand Wednesday against a slumping Indiana squad.
10. Xavier (7-0). Last week: 22
Xavier dominated the Advocare Invitational, defeating Dayton, USC and Alabama by an average of 19.3 points per game. The Musketeers should stay unbeaten for at least two more games, as they host Western Kentucky and Wright State in the next nine days,
11. Cincinnati (7-0). Last week: 19
Cincinnati won the Barclays Center Classic with solid wins against George Washington and Nebraska. The Bearcats have a big test Wednesday when they host Butler.
12. Syracuse (6-0). Last week: Not Ranked
Syracuse basketball returned to the national stage last week at the Battle 4 Atlantis. The Orange knocked off Texas A&M, Connecticut and Charlotte to earn the tournament crown, and they have two more tough opponents this week in Wisconsin and Georgetown.
13. Texas A&M (6-1). Last week: Not Ranked
Texas A&M pulled off a nice upset over Gonzaga at the Battle 4 Atlantis but then fell short in the title game against Syracuse.
14. Virginia (5-1). Last week: 14
Virginia had no trouble with Lehigh in its only game last week. The Cavaliers travel to struggling Ohio State on Tuesday for their Big Ten/ACC Challenge matchup.
15. Arizona (6-1). Last week: 15
Arizona was upset by a good Providence club and wound up finishing third at the Wooden Legacy. The Wildcats face their biggest test of the season yet when they travel to Gonzaga this weekend.
16. Gonzaga (4-1). Last week: 7
After going 2-1 at the Battle 4 Atlantis, Gonzaga has another tough week with games against Arizona and Washington State.
17. Oregon (5-0). Last week: 21
Oregon is off to a perfect start with two very good wins against Baylor and Valparaiso.
18. Miami Fla. (5-1) Last week: 5
After a roaring start to the year, Miami faltered with a loss at the buzzer to Northeastern. The Hurricanes play their first true road game of the season Tuesday at Nebraska in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge.
19. Vanderbilt (5-1). Last week: 18
Vanderbilt had a strong showing at the Maui Invitational, reaching the championship game. However, the Commodores’ run ended there to Kansas.
20. Purdue (6-0). Last week: 23
Purdue has won its six games by an average of 27.2 points per contest. The Boilermakers’ only wins of any notoriety, however, are neutral-site victories over Old Dominion and Florida.
21. SMU (4-0). Last week: 20
SMU eked by another Ivy League opponent, defeating Brown 77-69.
22. Louisville (5-0). Last week: Not Ranked
Louisville has not been tested yet, but it has won all five of its games convincingly. The Cardinals play a huge game Wednesday at Michigan State.
23. West Virginia (6-0). Last week: Not Ranked
West Virginia knocked off San Diego State and Richmond to win the Las Vegas Invitational. The Mountaineers should have no trouble staying undefeated into next week, as their only game of this week is at home against Kennesaw State.
24. George Washington (6-1). Last week: Not Ranked
George Washington’s perfect start ended Saturday with a 61-56 loss to Cincinnati.
25. Providence (6-1). Last week: Not Ranked
Providence got two strong wins at the Wooden Legacy against Arizona and Evanvsville, but the Friars fell to Michigan State in the championship game.
