5. DePaul starts 3-0 in Big East play for first time
In nine Big East seasons, DePaul had never started 3-0. The tenth time was the charm.
The Blue Demons opened conference play on New Year’s Eve by edging Marquette, 61-58. In their first game of 2015, they upset Xavier in another thriller, 71-68. Four days later, DePaul traveled to Creighton and defeated the Bluejays easily, 70-60.
DePaul was 3-0 in conference play, a first in program history. (Yes, that includes the Conference USA and Great Midwest days.)
Although the Blue Demons lost consecutive games to Villanova and Georgetown, they then knocked off St. John’s and Seton Hall to reach a 5-2 record. Not even halfway into the conference season, they had their most Big East wins since the 2007-08 season.
The 2014-15 season ended poorly with losses in 11 of their last 12 games, including an eight-game losing streak to close the year. But that stretch at the turn of the calendar was one of the brightest spots in DePaul’s recent history.
