6. Loyola smothers Indiana State at Arch Madness, advances to tourney semis for first time
Despite its best season in years, Loyola entered the 2015 MVC Tournament quarterfinals as a No. 6 seed and underdog against No. 3 seed Indiana State. The Ramblers were a popular upset pick, and they looked like the favorite for all 40 minutes in an 81-53 win.
After a slow start by both teams, Loyola used an 11-0 run to gain separation midway through the first half. The Ramblers kept piling it on, taking a 38-20 lead into halftime.
Indiana State scored the first bucket of the second half, trying to set the tone. But Loyola responded with 12 unanswered points, effectively putting the game away. The Ramblers held a 50-22 lead with 16 minutes remaining.
Four Loyola players scored in double figures, led by 16 points from senior and St. Louis native Christian Thomas.
