Loyola forward Montel James has been named to the All-MVC Second Team, the league announced Tuesday.
James, a 6-foot-7 senior, averaged 12.1 points and 6.8 rebounds per game this season. In MVC games, he ranked No. 2 in the conference in usage, No. 2 in fouls drawn per 40 minutes, No. 3 in defensive rebounding rate and No. 6 in block rate. He also shot 80 percent from the foul line in league competition and attempted as many as 20 free throws in a single game.
James joins Northern Iowa guard Wes Washpun, Indiana State guards Devonte Brown and Brenton Scott, and Illinois State guard DeVaughn Akoon-Purcell on the All-MVC Second Team.
Wichita State backcourt duo Ron Baker and Fred VanVleet highlighted the all-conference first team for the third year in a row. Evansville duo D.J. Balentine and Egidijus Mockevicius joined them along with Southern Illinois guard Anthony Beane.
The MVC Tournament begins Thursday in St. Louis, and No. 8 seed Loyola will face No. 9 seed Bradley on the opening night.
