Mid-Major Rankings for the Week of Nov. 24

1. Wichita State (3-0). Last week: 1

Wichita State cruised through its first two weeks of the season, knocking off New Mexico State and Memphis. The Shockers host Tulsa this weekend.

2. Gonzaga (4-0). Last week: 2

Gonzaga has been mightily impressive so far with dominant wins against Southern Methodist and St. Joseph’s. The Bulldogs face Georgia and then either Minnesota or St. John’s this week at the NIT Season Tip-Off.

3. Northern Iowa (4-0). Last week: 4

Northern Iowa has a solid win at Stephen F. Austin and can get some more this week. The Panthers will face Virginia Tech and then possibly Northwestern at the Cancun Challenge.

4. Harvard (2-1). Last week: 3

Harvard surprisingly lost to Holy Cross, but the Crimson bounced back with a thrashing of Florida Atlantic.

5. BYU (3-0). Last week: 8

BYU has dominated in its last two games but will have a tougher time this week at the Maui Invitational.

6. Wofford (4-1). Last week: 18

Wofford lost its season opener to Stanford but has since been on a roll. The Terriers have a quality win against Iona.

7. Iona (3-1). Last week: 5

Iona began a three-game road trip with a loss to Wofford but bounced back with wins at Wake Forest and North Texas. The Gaels face the biggest test of their non-conference schedule Sunday at Arkansas.

8. Saint Mary’s (4-0). Last week: 15

Saint Mary’s is yet to play away from home, but the Gaels have defeated quality mid-majors New Mexico State and UC Irvine. They remain at home this week for Cal Poly.

9. UTEP (2-0). Last week: 19

UTEP knocked off Washington State and New Mexico State to begin the season. The Miners will play three games at the Wooden Legacy this week.

10. Louisiana Tech (4-1). Last week: 7

Louisiana Tech lost to Temple but has since won three games in a row. The Bulldogs should be able to get another victory Friday against Samford.

11. Georgia State (1-2). Last week: 6

Georgia State has played a tough schedule and lost to high-quality teams Iowa State and Colorado State. The Panthers play four mediocre mid-majors this week, but all of those games are on the road or a neutral site.

12. Toledo (1-2). Last week: 9

Toledo’s road trip ended with a pair of losses, but the Rockets return home Monday to face Bucknell.

13. UC Irvine (2-2). Last week: 11

UC Irvine began a four-game road trip by nearly defeating Arizona and then losing a tight game to Saint Mary’s. Next up is Loyola Marymount on Saturday.

14. Stephen F. Austin (1-2). Last week: 12

With losses to Northern Iowa and Xavier, Stephen F. Austin already has as many regular-season losses as it had all of last season. The Lumberjacks have another toughie coming up at Baylor.

15. Green Bay (1-1). Last week: 14

Green Bay played one good half against Wisconsin, but the Badgers blew the Phoenix away in the second period. The Phoenix will compete in the Gulf Coast Showcase this week.

16. Murray State (2-1). Last week: 10

Murray State lost at home to Houston but has won its last two games. The Racers have a tough matchup Monday at Xavier.

17. Florida Gulf Coast (3-0). Last week: 17

Florida Gulf Coast is off to a strong start with wins against UC Santa Barbara and Ohio. The Eagles will play in the Gulf Coast Showcase this weekend.

18. Northeastern (4-0). Last week: Unranked

Northeastern has a pair of nice wins against Florida State and MAAC contender Manhattan. They can get another quality victory Wednesday at UMass.

19. Akron (3-1). Last week: Unranked

Akron finished third at the Charleston Classic with wins against USC and South Carolina. The Zips head to Penn State on Tuesday.

20. Evansville (2-0). Last week: 20

Evansville will get its first tests this week at the Gulf Coast Showcase. So far, the Aces’ only opponents are Earlham and Miami (Ohio).

21. New Mexico State (1-3). Last week: 16

New Mexico State has had quite a tough schedule, and it has hurt the Aggies’ overall record. But they should get a pair of wins this week against Stetson and Florida A&M.

22. Yale (4-1). Last week: 22

After dropping its season opener at Quinnipiac, Yale has won four straight games. The Bulldogs will be tested at Providence this week.

23. Illinois State (2-1). Last week: 24

Illinois State lost its opener to Utah State but has since won a pair of games. The Redbirds will play for the Paradise Jam championship Monday against Seton Hall.

24. Holy Cross (3-0). Last week: Unranked

Holy Cross cracks the rankings after upsetting Harvard in the season opener. The Crusaders will go for another upset Friday at Syracuse.

25. Charlotte (3-1). Last week: Unranked

Charlotte’s perfect start ended with a loss to Miami (Fla.) in the Charleston Classic championship game. The 49ers can get revenge on the Hurricanes in a rematch Tuesday.
