Illinois Rankings for the Week of Dec. 21

1. Northwestern (10-1). Last week: 1

Northwestern survived at DePaul in overtime to extend its winning streak to seven games. The Wildcats have a 94 percent chance of winning each of their final non-conference games against Sacred Heart and Loyola Maryland, per KenPom.

 

2. Southern Illinois (10-2). Last week: 3

Southern Illinois knocked off North Texas and Murray State last season, continuing its best start since the 2006-07 season. The Salukis travel to Saint Louis for their final non-conference game Monday.

 

3. Northern Illinois (8-2). Last week: 4

Northern Illinois ended a two-game skid Saturday with a double-overtime win against Florida International.

 

4. Western Illinois (7-3). Last week: 2

Western Illinois has lost three of its last four games against Division I teams, including an abysmal loss Saturday at Chicago State. The Leathernecks close out 2015 against Loyola on Monday.

 

5. Loyola (6-5). Last week: 5

After dropping two games in a row, including a bad home loss to Cleveland State, Loyola knocked off UIC in a rivalry matchup Saturday.

 

6. Illinois (7-5). Last week: 7

After a horrid start, Illinois has won four straight games. However, the last two have been against poor mid-majors.

 

7. DePaul (5-6). Last week: 6

DePaul has lost three games in a row. In terms of game-by-game projections, KenPom favors DePaul in only one more matchup this season — at home against St. John’s, which just got blown out Friday by Incarnate Word.

 

8. Illinois State (5-7). Last week: 8

After a strong second half in a win against UIC, Illinois State got blown out at St. Joseph’s.

 

9. Eastern Illinois (2-7). Last week: 9

Eastern Illinois’ losing streak hit three games Saturday with a loss at Houston.

 

10. Bradley (2-10). Last week: 10

Bradley has not beaten a Division I team since its season opener against Ball State. The Braves host TCU this week.

 

11. SIU-Edwardsville (3-7). Last week: 11

SIU-Edwardsville returns from its finals break to play Monday at USC. The Cougars have won their last two games.

 

12. Chicago State (4-9). Last week: 13

Chicago State knocked off Western Illinois on Saturday for its first win against a Division I opponent this season. The Cougars are on the road Monday against Marquette.

 

13. UIC (1-8). Last week: 12

UIC is the last team in Illinois without a win against a Division I opponent. The Flames will hold that title for at least one more week, as their only game this week is against NAIA Purdue-Calumet.
