1. Illinois (6-1). Last week: 1
Illinois picked up its first loss at Miami (Fla.) but bounced back with a win against American. The Illini have the opportunity for a huge win Tuesday against Villanova at the Jimmy V Classic.
2. DePaul (6-1). Last week: 3
DePaul has won four games in a row and is off to its best start in the 1993-94 season. The Blue Demons will have their hands full Thursday at George Washington.
3. Northwestern (5-3). Last week: 2
Northwestern’s comeback fell short against Georgia Tech, and the Wildcats then lost a close game at Butler. They should be able to end their three-game losing streak Sunday against Mississippi Valley Sate.
4. Illinois State (4-3). Last week: 4
Illinois State lost a four-point game to VCU and then beat UAB in a four-point game. The Redbirds travel to DePaul on Sunday trying to beat the Blue Demons for the second straight year.
5. Loyola (5-2). Last week: 5
After losing to Tulane, Loyola knocked off UIC for its third straight road win. The Ramblers play their next three games at home against mediocre opponents Jackson State, Abilene Christian and Southern Utah.
6. Southern Illinois (5-3). Last week: 6
Southern Illinois has won four straight games after starting 1-3. The Salukis face Southeast Missouri State, one of the better teams in the OVC, Wednesday.
7. Northern Illinois (3-2). Last week: 7
Northern Illinois fell at DePaul Tuesday. The Huskies look for their first road win of the season Saturday at Eastern Illinois.
8. Bradley (3-5). Last week: 8
Bradley ended a two-game slide with a win against Central Michigan but was then blown out by Memphis. The Braves could be facing another blowout Tuesday when they play at Kansas State.
9. Eastern Illinois (3-5). Last week: 13
Eastern Illinois looks for its third straight win Tuesday at UC Davis.
10. UIC (2-7). Last week: 9
UIC has lost three straight games, and six straight games against Division I opponents. The Flames continue a three-game home stand Thursday against UCF.
11. Western Illinois (2-5). Last week: 10
Western Illinois lost to Akron and Cleveland State last week. The Leathernecks play a Division I opponent at home for the first time in a few weeks Thursday, when they host Idaho.
12. SIU-Edwardsville (1-5). Last week: 11
SIU-Edwardsville has lost five straight games and is winless against Division I opponents. The Cougars look to end the streak Saturday at St. Louis.
13. Chicago State (2-8). Last week: 12
Chicago State is also winless against Division I opponents, and these Cougars have lost six straight games. They continue a three-game road trip Sunday at Southern Illinois.
