DePaul falls to last place St. John’s

St. John’s used a 14-2 run in the second half Wednesday to run away from DePaul and snap a 16-game losing streak. The Red Storm, who trailed 32-31 early in the second half, went on to win 80-65.

DePaul freshman guard Eli Cain led the Blue Demons (8-17, 2-11 Big East) with a career-high 25 points on 9-of-16 shooting. However, he received minimal help.

Senior guard Billy Garrett Jr. netted 15 points but needed 4-of-15 shooting to get there. The rest of the Blue Demons shot a combined 9-of-30 (30 percent) from the field.

Senior forward Durand Johnson led St. John’s (8-19, 1-13) with 18 points, including the team’s final eight. Freshman guard Federico Mussini was the driving throughout the game, recording 17 points off the bench.

DePaul returns home Saturday to face Marquette.
