DePaul (5-1) defeated Chicago State (2-7) Thursday for its third straight win and the program’s first 5-1 start under coach Oliver Purnell.
The Blue Demons never trailed after opening the game on an 8-2 run. They took a 17-point lead into halftime and blew by the Cougars 84-60.
Sophomore forward Tommy Hamilton IV led DePaul with a career-high 27 points in addition to eight rebounds. Hamilton connected on all seven of his field-goal attempts and also shot 9-for-12 from the line.
Junior guard Aaron Simpson also posted a career-high with 11 points off the bench.
Junior forward Myke Henry continued his hot play with 12 points. Henry is averaging 20.0 points and 6.8 boards while shooting 42.9% from beyond the arc in DePaul’s last four games.
Senior guard Clarke Rosenberg led Chicago State with 20 points on 6-for-17 shooting. No other Cougar scored in double figures.
DePaul returns home Sunday to face Milwaukee while Chicago State heads to Toledo for a Saturday tilt.
