Chicago Weekly Awards, Nov. 28

Every week for the 2016-17 season, The Catch and Shoot will name a Player of the Week, Freshman of the Week, Team of the Week and Game of the Week among the five Division I schools in the Chicago area.

Here are the winners for the 2nd week of the season (Nov. 21-Nov. 27):

Player of the Week

Dikembe Dixson, UIC

Dixson continued to torch opponents, averaging 29 points and 7 rebounds in three games last week. Dixson dropped 32 points and 10 rebounds against Elon or his first double-double of the season. He also got the foul line 20 times during a 31-point performance against Northern Illinois.

Honorable mentions: Scottie Lindsey, Northwestern; Aundre Jackson, Loyola

Freshman of the Week

Tarkus Ferguson, UIC

Ferguson turned in consecutive double-digit scoring outputs for the first time in his career dropping 11 points against Northern Illinois and Cal Poly. The 6’4″ freshman also averaged 2.3 assists in three games last week.

Honorable mention: Marcus Ottey, UIC

Team of the Week

Northwestern

Northwestern got its first win against a top 25 team in three years, knocking off Texas at the Barclays Center. Despite blowing a lead against Notre Dame for the Legends Classic title, the Wildcats are this week’s team of the week.

Game of the Week

DePaul 68, Missouri State 66

Billy Garrett Jr. scored 19 points in the final 12 minutes including the game-winner as DePaul came back from down 11 points to knock off Missouri State at the buzzer.
