Every week The Catch and Shoot will name a Player of the Week, Freshman of the Week, Team of the Week and Game of the Week from the five Division I schools in the Chicago area.

Here are the winners for the seventh week of the season (Dec. 28-Jan. 3):

Player of the Week

Billy Garrett Jr., DePaul

Despite missing some key free throws Saturday in a loss to Seton Hall, Garrett averaged 20.5 points and 6.5 assists in two games last week.

The junior point guard carried DePaul in a loss to Georgetown when the rest of the Blue Demons did not show up. Against Seton Hall, his 20 points and eight assists nearly led the Blue Demons to an upset on the road.

Honorable mentions: Bryant McIntosh, Northwestern; Dererk Pardon, Northwestern

Freshman of the Week

Dererk Pardon, Northwestern

In his second collegiate game, Pardon exploded for 28 points and 12 rebounds in a comeback victory against Nebraska. It helped that Nebraska’s box outs and defensive rotations were often nonexistent, but Pardon still put himself in the right spots and also showed off a couple of strong post moves to create some points himself.

Against Maryland, Pardon had another solid showing with eight point and six rebounds.

Honorable mentions: Dikembe Dixson, UIC; Fred Sims Jr., Chicago State

Team of the Week

Northwestern

Northwestern did more bad than good for its reputation with an uncompetitive loss to Maryland, but winning at Nebraska is important for separating the Wildcats from the bottom tier of the Big Ten.

Game of the Week

Seton Hall 78, DePaul 74

DePaul nearly pulled off the upset Saturday in Newark. The Blue Demons hung with Seton Hall every step of the way and led 39-37 early in the second half.

Seton Hall opened up an eight-point lead late in the second half, but DePaul had a chance to tie in the final second when Billy Garrett Jr. drew a foul on a 3-pointer trailing 76-73. However, Garrett missed the first free throw, made the second and intentionally missed the third, hoping for an offensive rebound and putback to force overtime. However, his last miss failed to hit the rim for a violation.
